Holy SWEAT! I’ve been wanting to try CorePower Yoga‘s Yoga Sculpt class literally for years since hearing about it from friends that frequent CPY in Chicago (and from Jami!). This past Sunday afternoon I finally got my chance! Fellow instructors have told me that I would absolutely love it, so I went in with high expectations and let me tell you the workout did not disappoint. Imagine a yoga, barre and bootcamp all rolled into one – oh, then add the heat! Yes, Yoga Sculpt is held in a heated studio 🙂
To warm up we started with a CorePower’s standard C2 vinyasa flow, then reached for 3/5lb weights to incorporate into the flow…you know, just to kick things up a notch. From the flow, we moved into designated strength-training and cardio tracks, which took me back to my Body Pump days for a second. I really enjoyed incorporating the bicep curls, lunges and squats with the weights into the existing sequence organically, but hearing “this is squat track 1” was a bit disheartening, knowing that must mean we have another squat track in store, rather than keeping the pain…I mean fun, a surprise. I really enjoy adding mini-cardio bursts into my own barre classes, so the mid-class cardio track (jump rope, jumping jacks, burpees, mountain climbers), while definitely challenging with the added heat, was a nice surprise to keep our heart rates up before moving down to the mat for some barre-esque glute work and core. Class ended with a much welcome savasana, and I was actually surprised by how quickly the hour went by!
If a heated barre/yoga/bootcamp fusion sounds….terrifying, rest assured CPY’s new Federal Hill studio offers several more traditional yoga classes in addition to Yoga Sculpt. For beginner yogis, we’d recommend checking out C1, C2 for a little more intermediate, and then Hot Power Fusion for a more meditative, slower flow (which is sometimes even more of a challenge!).
If you haven’t already, be sure to “like” CPY Federal Hill on Facebook to stay in the know for ALL the special events they have coming up! The studio team has done an amazing job at partnering with local businesses to create some really unique events. For instance, TONIGHT is The Galley Sponsored Night at CPY, where, if you take class between 5-8PM, you can enjoy dinner afterwards and snag a coupon for a free meal courtesy of the new delivery service.
