History of BMOREtoned
The original BMOREtoned group started in 2012 when a handful of local Baltimore ladies found Tone It Up (TIU)…and shortly after, each other. We bonded over TIU workouts and challenges then grew to be so much more! Since then, we’ve passed just working out together…and now share so much as friends!
It’s been a while since our first group workouts in 2012 and the group has, and continues, to grow! We’re always looking to meet new, enthusiastic people! Let us know if you’re interested in joining a TIUmeetup with us!
Please feel free to reach out to us at bmoretoned(at)gmail(dot)com!
Meet our Founders!
Annie Truax: Baltimore born and bred, Annie was exposed to athletics (and a love of track suits) at an early age as the daughter of a former college basketball coach. After playing sports in high school, she realized she missed the dynamic of being part of a team when she arrived at University of Georgia, so she decided to try out for UGA’s rowing team. A few weeks into the season, she realized she really enjoyed the conditioning workouts and running drills most of her teammates’ dreaded, but hated actually being out on the water! From this experience Annie fell in love with running, and after first tackling a few 5Ks then a 10k, she signed up and trained for her first half marathon.
Running quickly became Annie’s outlet, and she decided to celebrate her return home to Baltimore by training and running her first full marathon in her hometown- accompanied a couple miles by a new friend, and then co-worker, Kate! It wasn’t long before Kate dragged Annie to an early morning workout with some local Tone It Up girls she had connected with on Twitter, and the rest was history!
While Annie still attributes running as her gateway to the fitness world, these days she prefers to change up her workout routine, alternating between spin, yoga, barre and Tone It Up routines, mixed with shorter, quicker runs. Annie has been blessed with the opportunity to work with both Kate & Jami from a professional standpoint, and recently started a new adventure as an Account Executive at a local PR firm, where she provides strategic communication plans for clients across a variety of industries. Annie has experienced how precious life is, and prides herself on making a conscious effort to live life to the fullest each and every day, and strives to help others live their happiest, healthiest lives possible.
Jami Gobao: Born in Pittsburgh but grew up in Smyrna, Delaware Jami moved to Baltimore after college to pursue a job with Under Armour and has loved Charm City ever since. When she’s not working at Under Armour she is spending time with family, boyfriend, friends and traveling the world. Jami lives to inspire and change the lives of others. Jami’s charismatic personality shines in and outside of her work and the classes she teaches at Rev Cycle Studio. Life for her is one big dance party with a little work in between.
When Jami graduated from college, she couldn’t find balance. Just starting a career, working all the time, going out to meet new people and then she started to find out her lifestyle being a college athlete wasn’t there anymore. Those 2-a-days, constantly playing and working out wasn’t happening anymore. So she started to on her journey to balance work, social life and being active.
Along this journey, she found the Tone It Up program and discovered the community. Jami met Kate, Annie and many other girls who lived in Baltimore who were starting with TIU. And that’s how BMOREtoned started.
Jami is full of energy and rocks new, amazing musical remixes you can’t find anywhere else. As Jami would put it, “Go to your edge, ride your bike the way you want to live your life.” Jami is a yoga and Schwinn spin certified.
Kate Rowe: Kate is a Charm City transplant, although she’s been fully adopted and even buys purple (a previously altogether avoided color). Growing up in South Jersey led to her early love of sports and fitness. Her All-American cheerleading experiences translate into everyday enthusiasm (and sweet dance moves) and her growth as president of her University of Miami lacrosse team helps her lead teams in the real world.
Kate found Tone It Up by browsing their online free workout videos and was instantly drawn in to the TIU team. After getting heavily dedicated, including getting involved with amazing local TIU girls like Annie and Jami, she ended up winning the first TIU Bikini Series and has been toning it up ever since, recently attending the first ever TIU Retreat! Kate teaches regular Surfset classes at Beachfit and FloYo Fit classes on the water right outside of the city. She is also certified in Soul Body Barre and hopes to expand her class schedule even more this year.
As media relations manager at the National Aquarium, Kate helps inspire people to protect our oceans (and often hosts turtle photo shoots and/or coral reef press conferences). She brings enthusiasm and a smile everywhere she goes and is so incredibly excited to start (officially) on this amazing adventure with her BMOREtoned girls! She is married to a super nerd (she has the action figures in her house to prove it) and has an awesome dog, oh, and a jerk cat. Her favorite mantra is “Tie your shoes. Pack a good lunch. And remember that we’re all in this together” and she strives to bring that positive attitude to everything she does.
