Happy 1 Year to REV Cycle Studio!

01/12/15

There is nothing better than seeing a local business starting in Baltimore…one that not only makes a statement for themselves but also, creates a community around fitness! REV Cycle Studio, founded by co-owners Esther Collinetti and Rick Zambrano, started as an idea a few years ago and now it’s a reality! Rick regularly attended Esther’s spin classes and one day after class, Rick presented Esther with a book to thank her for the energy, inspiration and push it took for him to get certified as a spinning instructor through Mad Dogg Athletics, Inc. Rick prophetically declared to Esther that he would teach in her spinning studio one day. Well, that day is here. With Rick’s strong business background and Esther’s expertise in spinning they have built REV Cycle!

It’s exciting to not only see this place hit its first year anniversary but for us at BMOREtoned to be part of the growing fitness community that they’ve built in just the year. Annie was there in the beginning helping at the front desk and part-time marketing, and recently became their latest barre instructor! Jami joined the spin instructor roster in April and has helped with the Friday Happy Hour Ride theme rides.

Kate has been a supporter of REV since day one and has even been featured in some advertising for the company (the Bride Ride is one of our faves!).

Challenge Check In

01/8/15

We are pumped to have the kickstarted our Wholesome 2015 year! This year, we’ll be bringing you new encouragement every month, starting now with challenges!

get started quote | BMOREtonedIt’s only been a week and we are off to a great start! We are excited to share progress from the challenges we’re participating in and we can’t wait to hear from you. We are checking in daily – workouts, what’s for dinner and just overall keeping in touch to support each other. These check ins holds each of us accountable and help us stick to our challenges. Even when we’re not on top of our game and we have those downer moments, we have each other for uplifting thoughts and motivation! And, of course, those moments after we’ve inhaled dessert get a little dicey…but we’re there for each other to confirm that it’s okay and we’re not a failure. Life could be worse.

Accountability is key. And we want you to know we’re in this with you! We’re here to share our challenge check ins and to see how you are doing.

Whole30 Prep Lists

Whole30 Prep Lists

Jami printed out all the main grocery lists and one-sheeters on meal prep for Whole30. From there, did a major grocery haul to prep for breakfast and lunches.

Jami planned out her workouts for the week and meals.  Planning is key when you are always on the go. For Jami, working a full time gig, teaching spin classes, and having a new puppy in the house…life can get a little crazy. So always being prepared helps knowing that you have the right foods waiting for you on the go.

Here’s one of the fun recipes Jami has tried on the Whole30:

  • handful of spinach
  • ½ cup of frozen mango chunks
  • ½ frozen banana
  • dash of cinnamon & honey

Tone It Up Love Your Body Challenge & MapMyFitness Workout Games
Kate kicked off the Love Your Body series with some major goal setting – not just for workouts, but personal goals too. While we cannot plan for every bump in the road (i.e. the dessert afore mentioned…), setting your intentions is a great exercise. Part of the Love Your Body series is the 100 miles by VDay. Kate has started her running routine but it has been halted/changed by the sudden snow in Baltimore. She is also attempting to do more yoga. Between her TIU workouts, UA group workouts, Surfset classes, yoga and more, she’s been well on her way to document enough workouts for the MapMyFitness challenge, too!

Here’s one of Kate’s favorite workouts so far – TIU Arms & Abs!

Kate has also been keeping a journal of her fitness activity and the food she’s been eating. Being organized helps set her up for successful workouts, meals and days. She’s been using her FitBook which helps keep her weekly goals in check!

Annie (@annietruax):
Arbonne 30 Days to Fit
As an Independent Consultant with Arbonne, Annie has fallen in love with the products, especially Arbonne’s “Fit Essentials” line of nutritional products – so when the company launched their 30 Days to Fit program at the beginning of January, she was really excited to offer her clients a plan to to making 2015 their healthiest year yet (not to mention, try it herself).

In this 30 Days to Fit challenge (don’t mind that the PDF says 2012!), the daily meal plan revolves around some of Annie’s favorite products, including protein powder, energy fizzies and fit chews. Breakfast and lunch consist of protein shakes made from Arbonne’s all-natural, gluten-free and vegan certified protein powder, a super clean blend of brown rice, pea protein and cranberry extract (which tastes very similar to Shakeology – at half the cost!), while dinner is lean protein & greens. In between meals, Annie snacks on Fit Chews (lemon & chocolate are her fav flavors), has an afternoon fizzie (an all-natural alternative to Crystal Lite that contains antioxidants and green tea extract to help promote alertness and enhance cognitive performance, promotes endurance, enhances motor performance and helps reduce fatigue), and enjoys a cup of herbal detox tea before bed.

annie arbonne smoothie | BMOREtonedAnnie’s go-to post workout shake: 1 scoop Arbonne chocolate protein powder, 1 Chobani vanilla yogurt, banana, 1 TBS peanut/almond butter, 1/2c almond milk, 1tsp chia seeds, handful of spinach

If you’re interested in starting your own 30 Day to Fit Challenge, Annie and Amelia (one of our fav yoga/PiYo instructors) are offering a promotion to purchase all the products, along with exclusive access to an online community where they will share recipes and tips, and will launch a group 30 Day to Fit Challenge soon! Just email Annie at annetruax@gmail.com or Amelia at amelia.conlon@gmail.com for more info on how to get started!

So how is your challenge(s) going? We want to hear from you!

Recipe: Whole30 Cauliflower Soup

01/8/15

Whole30 Cauliflower Soup

Whole30 Cauliflower Soup

Tis the season of cold weather which means soups are on!  We love soup because once it’s made and you have a batch of it, it lasts for the week and it’s an easy on-the-go meal at anytime. I am doing the Whole30 challenge, so anything that is prepped and ready to go makes things so much easier. I always enjoy eating the different cauliflower recipes, like cauliflower mash or cauliflower rice on the Whole30, but I wanted to change it up and saw this one on Pinterest. The coconut milk provides that creaminess that we love in soups and you avoid the dairy.

Soups are one of my favorite go-to’s for meals. With the cold season really kicking in, figured this would be great to share for those who are looking for a healthier soup option and to keep you warm!

Ingredients
  • Aromatics:
  • 1 Tbsp. olive or coconut oil
  • 2 medium yellow onions, diced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1¼ tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • dash of ground black pepper
  • sprinkling of crushed red pepper flakes
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • Sustenance:
  • 4½ cups vegetable broth
  • 1 large head of cauliflower, roughly chopped to the same size
  • Conclusion:
  • 1 cup canned coconut milk
  • 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • fresh dill (for garnish - optional)
Instructions
  1. In a large soup pot, heat the oil over medium-low. Add all the aromatic ingredients, except for the garlic. Saute, stirring occasionally until the onions become translucent, about 10 minutes.
  2. Then, add the garlic and saute another few minutes. Add the sustenance ingredients and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce to a simmer and allow to cook for about 15 minutes, until the cauliflower is tender.
  3. Remove from heat and transfer carefully to a blender.
  4. Blend on high (allowing steam to vent) for a few minutes, until silky and smooth.
  5. Transfer back to the soup pot and stir in the coconut milk and vinegar. Bring back to heat over low, ensuring it doesn't boil.
  6. Serve hot and topped with fresh dill and ground black pepper, if you like.

New Year. New Jams. Hello 2015!

01/6/15

This week I am excited about the new year which means…new tunes! Nothing is better than new jams for the new year to power all of your 2015 resolutions. Here are some of my favorites so far:

1.) Blank Space by Jessica Lovelace. We start with a blank space for the New Year. Great quote that goes with this: “Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one.”

2.) Younger by Seinabo Sey. Well let’s face it, you aren’t getting younger…so don’t waste your time and do those effin fun and crazy things that you have always wanted to do.

3.) Runaway by Galantis. Don’t runaway stick with it.

4.) Epic by Sandro Si. Always reach for those epic ideas and thoughts of yours.

5.) Pumpin Blood by NONONO. This song really gets me going and inspired. Think of things that pumps your blood and makes you reach nothing but for the best.

6.) 7/11 by Beyonce. Enough. Said. One badass b*tch that is a true inspiration.

7.) Can’t Stop by Theopilus feat Kayne. Can’t Stop…won’t stop.

8.) Bad Habit by The Kooks. Screw those bad habits, this is your year baby!

10.) The Hanging Tree by James Newton. The song is from The Hunger Games. Great mantra for yourself to keep focus. I mean shit, Katniss Everdeen sings this in the movie and is kicking ass and taking names.

Enjoy, and let us know in the comments what tracks you’d like to see more of!

Cheers!
Jami

Class Review: SB Body Barre at Beachfit

01/4/15

Charm City has a new hit. And it really hits you hard. haha

Stacey and Ann Marie of Soul Body Barre have teamed up with Beachfit to start offering a new class in our area called SB Body Barre. You may have heard of Soul Body or taken one of their barre classes at one of the Merritt Athletic Club locations. And if you were like us you may have thought, “how could this possibly get any harder?!” Well guess what, they managed to find a way. 🙂

SB body barre at beachfit | BMOREtoned

This new “barre” workout uses a handheld, weighted body bar in place of a fixed bar/dumbbells as well as a ball and bodyweight. I tried the Saturday class at Beachfit and we used a 9lb bar and, believe me, we didn’t need anything else! Ann Marie led the class with Stacey’s help demoing and had some great music to help keep the energy (and glutes) up.

SB body barre at beachfit | BMOREtoned

The class goes through various tracks that work your entire body, but focuses on certain muscle groups. Much like a traditional barre class, there is a lot of pulsing, tucking and squeezing, but unlike the traditional barre style this class can be done anywhere!
SB body barre at beachfit | BMOREtonedThe small isometric movements work your muscles and tone those little areas you didn’t know could be worked. The moves pull from pilates, yoga, dance and traditional interval strength training, so it’s a good mix for anyone looking for a good toning workout, that still delivers a strong mind-body connection.

Beachfit is the first location to start offering this class in Baltimore and I definitely advise you checking it out! Currently, SB Body Barre is offered at Beachfit every Saturday at 10AM. They are also looking for instructors so they can offer more classes. If you’re interested, they have an upcoming training in January!

cheers!
